In May, more than 40 Philadelphia-area foundation staff participated in a communications workshop offered by D5 and Hattaway Communications. Participants learned the importance of being clear on audience (e.g., Fatigued Fighters and Heartfelt Pragmatists), and how to craft a message that effectively conveys the importance of advancing DEI in philanthropy.
In May, D5 and its constellation of colleagues and allies continued to promote the movement and support D5’s goals related to Funding and Action.
On May 8, D5’s work was featured at the National Center for Family Philanthropy’s annual conference. The session, Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity in Philanthropy, gave participants an overview of D5’s work and an opportunity to explore their own experiences and histories related to DEI. Kelly Brown was joined by Lisa and William Graustein, trustees of the William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund, and Patrick Troska of the Jay & Rose Phillips Family Foundation of Minnesota. | |
In late May, D5 was a featured guest at The River Gathering, the first-ever joint conference of Philanthropy Northwest and Grantmakers of Oregon and Southwest Washington. The breakfast plenary and breakout session, Do Cohorts Really Work?, explored the work of the foundation CEO peer learning cohort that is also featured in the related report, Vision and Voice. |
